Educational kinesiology is the study and application of specific movements, which activate the brain for optimal storage and retrieval of information. It is also a process for re-educating the whole mind/body system for greater ease and efficiency of function.  Edu-K is more commonly known as Brain Gym, which is actually a program that teaches 26 movements to unlock potentials for learning.  Edu-K is now being widely used all over the world and has only been introduced to the Philippines in 2004.  Anima Christi Center is the first and only school that is authorized to use the program. There are many documented results of improved performances among children with learning challenges, AD/HD and autism.

In Anima Christi Center, Educational Kinesiology is used as follows:

· In class, movements are done twice daily to improve student performance

· Special Brain Gym balances to address a particular concern. Brain Gym Balances are given as part of their counseling program to help raise students’ awareness of their strengths and limitations, and to give them tools for helping themselves

· For determining the brain profiles of students to help understand how they can best learn and give the appropriate help to them

MOVEMENT THERAPY

Class sizes are extremely small for maximum learning: 4-5 for Preschool and Pre-vocational,  6-7 for the elementary and 8-10 per class in high school and vocational.

With small class sizes, each child is carefully and closely supervised.

SMALL CLASS SIZES

Anima Christi Center has an in house Speech therapist to conveniently address expressive language concerns. Students can either be pulled out from class or have their speech sessions after class.

SPEECH THERAPY

· Counseling is a requirement for all high school students and for all students who have committed infractions or violations and those who have behavioral and emotional concerns.

· Counseling is given by a guidance counselor. For the immediate resolution of conflicts in the classrooms, teachers also provide the counseling.

INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATIONAL PLAN (IEP)

READING INTERVENTION

The school uses the Wilson Reading Program and a variety of other programs to ensure that each child reads to his grade level. These are either done as pull-outs or as separate sessions after class.

SPECIAL ONE-ON-ONE PROGRAMS

Students with very special needs benefit from a highly individualized form of teaching. This program is available to those who cannot be accommodated in a classroom setting.

An IEP is prepared for each child to ensure that (a) the areas of weaknesses are identified and addressed, and (b) appropriate interventions are provided. The teachers record the child’s progress twice each year in the IEP chart.
