 History

Anima Christi Center started its existence in 1997 as a center that provides educational therapy and counseling for children with learning challenges.

In 1999, Anima Christi Center became a special school to fill in a need that traditional schools were unable to provide. Traditional schools due to their large class sizes, could not provide the accommodations and interventions that these students badly needed. The first students of Anima Christi Center, numbering 35, were those, who, despite the fact that they were undergoing educational therapy, could still not cope with traditional schools.

Philosophy

The Anima Christi Center for Learning and Human Development views education as a vehicle through which spiritual brokenness can be healed. Children with learning difficulties and/or are emotionally disturbed get exposed to a lot of frustrations early in life. The significant adults in their lives get equally stressed and frustrated for not knowing how to give them proper help. All the misunderstanding and frustrations that these children experience repeatedly dent their spirits making them angry at themselves, with the adults and even with God. They grow up fully believing that they must defend themselves against a very cruel world, and oftentimes become adults who cannot function properly. Education, to be truly useful in shaping the human being, must first and foremost address the spiritual identity of the child. The curriculum and programs for the cognitive, emotional and social development of the child must be designed in such a way that the child’s spiritual identity is acknowledged and allowed flourish.

Mission Statement

The Anima Christi Center is committed to provide education that heals.

To achieve this goal, the school offers the following:

 - a curriculum that accommodates and honors the unique learning style of each child

 - a comprehensive intervention program that aims to improve areas of weakness so

that the child can reach his fullest potential

      - a behavior modification program and discipline policy that addresses the behavioral and social needs of the child.

The Curriculum

Ø Anima Christi Center offers both regular curriculum with graded levels, and a special curriculum for non-graded levels. Thus, Anima Christi Center is both a regular and a special school.

Ø It is regular because it has a DepEd-prescribed curriculum for the elementary and high school students whose intelligence allows them to pursue graded programs. The school can promote to the next grade level and students can graduate from the elementary and high school programs.

Ø  It also offers a special, non-graded curriculum for those who are mentally-challenged of which there are two levels: vocational and pre-vocational.

Ø  The students enrolled in the regular curriculum are given accommodations and interventions to allow them to learn despite their challenges.
